This course delves into the intricate interplay between the evolution of physical education, sport, fitness, wellness, health, and coaching throughout history. By analyzing historical and philosophical underpinnings, students will gain a deep understanding of the roots and trajectories that have shaped contemporary practices in physical education and sport. The course also cultivates the growth of students as professional educators and reflective practitioners by having students start to develop their teaching philosophy and analyze different pedagogical models as well as research related to the field. Comprehensive information about the management of health and physical education, athletics, and fitness programs. Current trends, practices and support services essential to the development of these programs will be examined.
Prerequisite(s): PEMJ 235. Restriction(s): Must be enrolled in one of the following programs of study: PEDU, HLPE, SPRC, TYBM, TPED. This class is a comprehensive introduction to assessment practices used in the school setting. Students will learn how to create an assessment plan, construct assessment tools for all learning domains, administer the assessment tool, and interpret the information obtained from the assessment. Students will also learn about different forms of technology that can be incorporated into the classroom to assist with assessment. Equivalent course HPEM 355 effective through Summer 2023.
