The goal of the College Readiness course is to welcome you to Bloomfield College (BC) and provide support in your transition to college life. This course is designed to expose you to academic skills, and success strategies, as well as connect you to important campus resources. No credit awarded.
This summer course, open to all incoming first-year students and required for students in the EOF & LEAP programs, is an intensive summer course designed to introduce students to the skills necessary for initial success in college. The course introduces students to the patterns of behavior that are necessary for success. It also provides intensive mathematics and writing instruction to prepare students for their first semester. Students who complete the course may have their initial writing and math placements revised as a result of additional assessment.
This entry level, multidisciplinary course is recommended of all evening and weekend freshmen. It is designed to help adult learners make the transition to formal learning by strengthening skills and acquiring new knowledge. The course also aims to help students learn to balance personal, professional and academic schedules.
Prerequisite(s): Actively be placed on Academic Notice for the first time. Restriction(s): Enrollment to course is only available to students on their first semester of Academic Notice. Bloomfield College Academic Support course is a one-credit course at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University. The course is designed to help students who do not meet satisfactory academic standards to develop skills and strategies to improve their academic performance. In addition, course material will assist in self-exploration and understanding the value of progressing in higher education. Campus resource partners, such as academic advisors, coaches, and support program advisors, will play a crucial role in supporting students’ course completion and their pathways toward graduation.
Prerequisite(s): WRT 105: Argumentative and Analytical Writing. This 0-credit-hour course serves as the registration vehicle for BCMSU’s SCHOLAR Symposium, the culminating assignment in the 10-11-credit hour SCHOLAR certificate program. Through this course, students will submit ePortfolio documentation of the community project they will present to the public at the bi-annual SCHOLAR Symposium.
Restriction(s): Senior standing required. Seniors will have the opportunity to identify career possibilities as they are related to individual skills, interests, and aptitudes. Career and employment outlook will be investigated. Creative job search strategies, including effective resume writing and interview techniques, will be covered. Teaching methods will include lecture, discussion, independent study, role-playing, and videotaping. This course does not carry General Education elective credit.
Restriction(s): Second Semester Junior standing with a GPA of at least 2.5. An internship or project-based learning experience in which students work with a regional business or organization or on relevant case studies that facilitate applied learning. The course emphasizes the use of business and leadership skills within the context of social responsibility and community stewardship.
