Montclair offers three distinct pathways into the Speech Language Pathology graduate program. The first path is for students with an academic background in communication sciences disorders (“with background”) to start in the summer semester and graduate in May after 6 semesters (including the first summer). The second path is for students with an academic background in communication sciences disorders (“with background”) to start in the fall semester and graduate in August after 6 semesters. The third path is for students without an academic background in communication sciences disorders to start in the fall semester and graduate in May after 8 semesters.
To be considered “with a background” the following classes are required and student needs to demonstrate final grades or plans for enrollment in the following classes before (classes with different names will be considered if content is equivalent):
-
Speech and Hearing Science
-
Introduction to Language Development
-
Phonetics
-
Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing
-
Neurophysiological Bases of Communication
-
Clinical Procedures in Audiology
Note about prerequisites: If the only prerequisite that a student is missing is the neurophysiology class, it is possible with prior approval that the student can complete this class at Montclair over the summer before they begin their program in the fall in order to be considered “with background.”
